Abandon Everything For Spiritual Growth

Your spiritual growth is measured by how far you can renounce and abandon the worldly pleasures and expectations. Spiritual growth cannot be measured in what you have learned by reading the books or practicing any courses that tells the path to spirituality.

Short Story

Once there is a person named Sumedh who tries to understand Spirituality. He read many books and took number of courses which teaches the path to spirituality. After some time he joins a master. Every month he sends a report to his master about his spiritual progress which he had made by his master lessons. First month he wrote “I feel an expansion of consciousness and experience my oneness with the universe” The master read the note and threw it away. Next month this is what he wrote: “I have finally discovered that the divine is present in all things.” The master seemed disappointed. In his third letter(3rd month) the disciple enthusiastically explained, “The mystery of the One and the many has been revealed to my wondering gaze!” The master yawned. His next letter(4th month) said: ”No one is born, no one lives, and no one dies, for the self is not!” The master threw his hands up in despair.

A month passed by, then two, then five; then a whole year. The master thought it was time to remind the disciple of his duty to keep him informed of his spiritual progress. The disciple wrote back, “Who cares?” When the master read those words, a look of satisfaction spread over his face, and he thought, “Thank God, at last he’s got it!”

Spiritual advancement is measured not in terms of what you learn or what you innovate but it’s freedom from worldly pleasures and expectations that others and you have from yourself. Spiritual growth can be achieved by the baby steps. It’s difficult to start practicing in a jump. Have a look at these baby steps.

1.  Have some time for yourself. Sit quiet at peaceful place.

2.  Start Meditation.

3.  Remove all thoughts from your mind.

4.  Celebrate your goals if you have achieved them.

5.  Ask yourself each day before going to bed what you have done to keep your inner self or being healthy or sensitive.

6.  Seek out a spiritual group in your environment.

7.  Follow what you love.
