5 Steps for Harnessing the Power of Trust and Surrender

“Have Faith” is a phrase I used to hear a lot. As a recovering control freak, I remember getting very frustrated when things did not go as planned and it felt like my life had been completely thrown off course.  Force became my frenemy. Although I looked to “force” things as a way of controlling, I quickly realized that my need to control was not helping to make things happen and actually slowed things down.

The greater lesson: We are not here to control things or the outcome. Instead, it’s an opportunity to let go.

With the help of these five steps, you can learn to harness the power of trust and surrender on your own path to becoming your highest and best self.

1. Connect with your spirit guides and angels

We are never alone and are always supported.  Spirit guides are non-human entities who are with you to help guide you on your path.  Angels are always around us. However, you must connect and ask for help. Angels cannot intervene in a human’s life unless specifically asked to do so.  Your spirit guides and angels are there to help guide you. If you’ve never met your guides, take a moment in a calm quiet space to connect. Ask your guides to show themselves to you. Different angels show up depending on the situation. For example Archangel Raphael is specific to health and healing, while Archangel Chamuel is called upon to bring about inner peace in times of turbulence, and Archangel Ariel is the angel of natural resources and is also known to be the angel of abundance/prosperity.

2. Ask for help/guidance

Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, we are all connected to a greater source. Asking for guidance and help is part of our path. This is also part of knowing that we are fully and unconditionally supported.  When people don’t ask for help or guidance, there is an inherent feeling that you are all alone and in truth you’re not.  Take a moment to connect in a quiet space and ask your spirit guides or angels to connect with you. Ask them to work on your behalf, giving you peace.

There is a saying: “Prayer is you talking to Source, Meditation is Source talking to you.”

Meditation is a great way to listen to your intuition and to Source which resides within you. Listening is powerful for developing your intuition and flexing your “trust” muscle.  Meditation is a practice to be cultivated. Start out with a few minutes at a time and build yourself up to longer sessions (20-30 minutes).

3. Give it up

When things are too heavy on your heart, or on your mind, you’ve got to give it up. One of my colleagues told me about her “God Box” where she puts her fears, worries, and troubles. This is surrendering to your higher power and allowing the issue to be handled on your behalf.  Practicing putting your issues in the box and giving it to source is a great away to pass along your issues to Source and to ask for intervention on them. It’s like having your own assistant working on things for you.  Play out a situation in your mind as though it’s resolved.  This gets you in a state of flow and expectation for a positive resolution. This also keeps your mind out of the “how” or the worry state.  Feel the emotions as if the situation were completely taken care of and write down in a journal how you see it unfolding.

5. Give gratitude for magnificence

Gratitude is a great way to bring more good things your way because the law of attraction states that “like attracts like”. As you practice gratitude, you’re showing that you trust in the process and surrender to forces outside yourself.  When you practice gratitude for the situation, you are also exhibiting trust and surrender to Source. You are demonstrating that you believe in your team working alongside you.  These are all great practices to develop and to use for harnessing the power of trust and surrender. As you practice these over and over, you’ll see that when you work with universal power and flow, magical changes occur not only in your life, but also within your spiritual journey.
