3 Tools To Power Up Your Day

I’ve always been curious to know what fuels people’s daily lives; whether they live by default or on purpose. Do they actively choose to create their experiences or take whatever comes their way?

Living on purpose is about being the cause and creating the life we want to live. How we show up in the small moment makes a big difference in our well-being and relationships.

Which brings me to my question: how do you start your day?

We all have them; the well-known term: “I woke up on the wrong side of the bed.” Start off on a ‘bad day’ and the rest is often times sure to spiral out of control. Going intentionally into your day can be the difference between you snapping at the slow driver in front of you or seeing the traffic as a needed time-out (a few extra minutes to have alone time or sending that important text before giving your energy to what needs you next).

Below I share with you a few ways to set a foundation of ease before going into your day. These tools are so deceivingly easy but trust me, they work. As humans we need to let go of having solutions be so complex.

1. Gratitude
Sounds unconventional, right? Studies have shown that this simple tool doesn’t only elevate your happiness levels; but increases self-esteem, lowers stress, anxiety and improves your health because gratitude shifts your focus from lack to abundance.

A friend and I schedule a weekly call to share what we are grateful for during that week. We call these our gratitude calls. Not only does it shift us out of any low energies we may have been in earlier, but I know it quickly shifts me into states of euphoria and feeling unsinkable. The more you get into this supercharged place the more things you start noticing and feeling grateful about. Why? Because gratitude begets gratitude.

Today, invest in a gratitude journal. Write down at least 10 things you are thankful for each day and watch your energy change as you start to feel more blissful. Start bringing gratitude to your experience instead of waiting for an experience to write about.

2. Get Grounded
Yep, I said it. Get grounded. And if you can do it out in nature that is even better because nature provides emotional stability, clearer thinking and is good for your immune system. Once you are rooted in the love and nurture of Mother Earth NOTHING can knock you off your feet and you are equip to deal with anything that comes into your day.

The How-To:

Place your feet flat on the ground (it’s not necessary, but if possible take off your shoes and really feel the earth / carpet / floor).

Imagine your feet growing roots like a tree and those roots going down into the soil and even deeper to the centre of the earth. (Take your time until you can really imagine or feel this.)

Now, imagine Mother Earth receiving this and gifting back to you her own roots connecting back up to hug and encompass you. See that love-juice come right up through your feet and create a hug-nest around your body.

Can you feel the warmth and support right there? You are steady, like a tree with deep roots, and nothing in your day is strong enough to sway you. If anything disturbing shows up in your day continue to imagine this support and remember that you are tethered and supported.

3. Shhhhh…
If ever you needed a secret weapon it’s this. We can all benefit from a meditative practice. Besides its vast benefits going into this no-mind place not only reduces stress and anxiety but also activates the happy and positive features of the brain.

People who meditate are more in control of their emotions.  Meditation recharges the batteries and puts you in a calmer place for your day. Although done at any time I recommend doing this practice for 10 to 20 minutes first thing in the morning to prep you for the day. If you are ready to invest more time adding some time in the evening is beneficial too so to flush out the gunk and stresses you may have picked up from your day.

These tools are quick and effective and can be done in as little as 15 minutes without taking up too much out of your daily life. And in as little as two weeks you will see shifts in the way you breathe, move and perceive this gorgeous life you were given.
Much love.
