What is Intuition?

What is Intuition?

What is intuition, and where does it come from?

We have all heard about intuition, but what is it, and where does it come from?

The Merriam-Webster Dictionary Defines Intuition as:

Definition of INTUITION

1.  quick and ready insight

a.  immediate apprehension or cognition

b.  knowledge or conviction gained by intuition

c.  the power or faculty of attaining to direct knowledge or cognition without evident rational thought and inference

The Oxford English Dictionary Defines Intuition as:

Intuition is the ability to acquire knowledge without interference and/or the use of reason.

It is easy to understand how our mind works when we think about it as a storage center for information that can be called upon when needed.  But, how is it possible for our mind to discriminate what is the best course of action for us with so many different paths to take along the way?  And, how is it possible for the mind to determine what is going to happen next in order to either warn us, or nudge us in the right direction?

IS intuition part of our mind? OR is it part of our heart, part of our soul?  Is it within us, or does it come from the Universe, God, or some other source?

I suppose one could argue that intuition is nothing more than an educated guess based on past experience and knowledge.  How then, can one explain that which cannot be deduced from our vast experience?

A search of the internet shows that there is a lot of information out there on how to improve your intuition, but there isn’t much out there that can explain it.  We know that certain parts of our brain react when we are using intuition, but still, where does it come from?

The most plausible explanation is that it is a gift that we have been given, a direct link to a higher power that we can utilize to protect us, and guide us towards our higher purpose.

“The Intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.”
~ Albert Einstein

It may be a fruitless endeavor to try and figure out exactly what intuition is.   Do those of us who have faith in God not believe in the absence of empirical evidence?  Do we really need to know why miracles happen?  I think our time would be better spent taking that leap of faith, learning how to develop it, and taking some time to be thankful for this wonderful gift.

How about you?
