The quest for certainty

The quest for certainty

Of many veiled and complex elements of humans, one which I now feel confident about is credence on labeled definiteness. In current impatient times, we have forgotten to slow down and explore the vastness of what can be, in the chase of what is.

I recently had to go through a minor surgery, which almost succeeded in devastating my plans and time table for a month. Like every other person, who ever had an encounter with a sudden, not so pleasant surprise of going under doctor’s knife, I too yearned for my recovery. “Please tell me the time I’ll take to recover completely” – was the question I threw at my doctor every single day I went for my wound dressing. “Depends on your body’s capacity to heal, young lady!” was what she gave me back every time. Tired of this everyday dialogue, I decided to change the direction of my thinking a bit, and realized that – though there lies great comfort and assurance in certainty, it belittles one of our most amazing capacities, and that is – to visualize, imagine and have hope for all the beautiful and magical things that are possible in the coming moments.  Instead of complaining about doctor’s inability to give me an estimate of my recovery, when I started concentrating on all the favorable possibilities concerned with my health, I realized that it became much easier for me to heal myself and maintain a positive attitude.

Post my recovery, when I started pondering over this apprising discovery of mine, I found it to be so constructive and beneficial that the thought of inking and sharing it became dominant in my mind.

I nowhere underestimate the crucial role of deadlines in our plans, personal and professional. They definitely keep us going for what needs to be achieved. But, there occur some turbulent episodes in our lives, which force us to forage for the elixir of sureness. The question is- why do we have to bind ourselves with what is tagged as certain, and why can’t we have the courage to release this string and stroll in the gardens of imagination. For imagination has the power to construct, for imagination can introduce us to our untapped potential of being a visualizer, for imagination can help us get a clearer picture of the destinations we want to reach, for imaginations can take us where certainties and logics never can.
